troutin in the seacoast
So after my trip to NY, i have a renewed interest in trouting... well looking around it would seem that the isinglass, cocheco and lamprey are still open for trout... it would also seem that some guys are doing really well out there.
my experience trout fishing was 90% as a kid. real young i was bait fishing, then i moved onto spoons and bucktails on a spinner set up... then it seemed i got real advanced and started tossing ant patterns and unamed piece o sh$t dry flys at brookies up in the pemi wilderness. so non of this was very technical or difficult. well now i want to break out the old 4 wt and get after it... does anyone have a recomended flies? sizes? rigging techniques?? in NY i was a "bottom bouncer" this is the technique that the people i went with practice.. i tell ya it isnt much for fly fishing... it is a fly but the set up went like this... 10' 7 wt fly rod with a shoot line to a 20# main line, 15# shock to a tiny three way swivel. a couple of pea sized split shots on a short dropper (for slow water which i liked fishing, up to 1.5 oz in fast which i tried to stay away from) then a 4' leader of 4-8# flouro to an assortment of flies (#16 cooper john to #4 woolly bugers or #6-10 eggs) not very sporty or atleast i dont feel like it should be called fly fishing i am not sure if this would be effective? or should i try some sort of indicator fishing? or stripping streamers?? i just dont really know but i would love to learn a bit more now that i have some quality wadding gear and it is a long time before the water gets hard enough to fish thru. thanks in advance |
