Breaking out the Big Stick on the Rocks.
Since this season is one of those odd years I'm a thinkin I'm a gonna break out the two hander for surfcasting the suds.
What's the difference, since the volume of schoolies are low, I don't have the "I'm wasting quality fishing time trying to pick this up." and a fifteen foot fly rod sails a 9" fly out past the backing slicker than shit. Anybody else use these long rods, or have an interest in it? |

Been working on a prototype switch rod, 11', nothing bigger though. For some reason I'm not a big fan of the real big 2 handers.
I definitely see there place in the salt. Dave G |

Hey Dave,
That's really cool. If I get the swing of things I'd look to pick up somthing in the 11-12' range just for the that reason. The two I have I picked up 4-5 years ago as 'deals', they are good starter rods but they are not anything special. I use 10 footers out of a yak, and always think that a longer rod would be better. I've even considered useing one the above mentioned spey's out of a yak. On that note, have you considered targeting that market? An 11-12' rod might be just the ticket. The added rod length makes casting from the sitting position gracefull and not a chore, mending, fighting fish that circle the kayak, and lifting the line out of the fore and aft rigging would all be much easier as well. Do you have an estimate of the price and a release date? |

Dave,
I have no doubt that I'll take one of these. At low tide tonight it was hard to deal with a 15 ft stick while managing a limp running line that kept tangling in the Rockweed. Do you have a grain size in mind? |

The only problem I found in casting a 14' Spey rod from my kayak was not being able to get leverage on a fish of 20 lbs. or more to get it to the side of the yak where I could grab the leader. They were a joy to cast, as they are wading. I took one fish down in Eastman's Slough that went 36 lbs. on Don Littlefield's scale but I had to beach the yak and get on my feet to get it in to shore.

Well, from one former NH CCAr to another; I'll accept infamous as a compliment, I hope.
Just got back from Mosquito Lagoon. Launched before dawn in flat calm conditions. Before the sun poked over the dunes at Playalinda Beach it was blowing 30k + and we got out of there with nothing to show for our efforts. Breakfast was the high point of our morning. I'm back in Melbourne now and looking out at the Indian River Lagoon covered with white caps and the wind is still piping. Still don't know who you are. There are lots of former NH CCArs out there. How about a clue? |

Any day in the Lagoon is a good one... or maybe that was a saloon?
I doubt you'd remember me. The name is Geoff Wilson. The only possible way that you may remember is because I own the salt marsh restoration company that has done the 3 largest restoration projects in NH. I thought you moved down the cape, how long have you been in Florida? |
