Eagle
I have to stop and appreciate the place I live more often. We just watched an immature bald eagle soaring into the wind at the edge of our yard and lightly touch down on the frozen marsh. He's a day late; after I breast out my ducks I put the carcass on a big rock to watch the crows, gulls and red tailed hawks pick at. I hope he grabs that black duck I dropped at sunset yesterday. Snuck up on a bunch taking shelter under a bank down at the landing after hurriedly grabbing a handful of shells and "the long gun" Second shot knocked him out of the sky and he was feet up floating toward shore. After I was done patting myself on the back and heading over to a spot I judged he'd drift to I was surprised to see him swimming away into the wind. Reloading on the run, I put three charges of #2's into his stern and he just kept paddling!
Out of range and out of shells, just watched him swim to the far side and safety. Go get that SOB, young Mr. Eagle! |
