High tides at night

I've been fishing the salt for 3yrs now and have a question regarding high tides after 2 or 3am. In my small but extensive fishing experience with Eels at night I have notice that when the moon is either a new moon or a full moon the fishing tends to be great. But only when the high tides are around 10-130am. at night. Why is this?
Everytime I try to fish the high when it's after 2 or 3am i don't tend to do so hot. Is it because the fish have already had their midnight snack? It's still dark at these times. I have read that first light is supposed to be the best time for BIG stripers. I still do the same things at 2 and 3am as I do when it's 10pm-1am. Is this just me or has anyone else experienced this?
Also, Should I still be using Eels at first light? Just wondering.

it's all about location.... nothing else....I've done well at every hour.it's all about the patterns the fish are following.... most people find a time that works for them and go with it, time and time again... me, I fish when I want, the tide is never my master....somewhere, some place there are fish feeding...
at any time dusk to dawn big bass prowel....

first light is time to call it a night and go to work... ( eels still work at grey dawn)

I'd let Roc handle this one. I haven't flung an eel in anger since that fish on my wall inhaled one about nineteen years ago! I'm usually toes up by 11 most nights, so I 'm not the guy to ask. Sorry.

Thanks Roccus, I always find myself fishing the same areas I know at night but I'll start looking elsewhere when things get slow.
