Flounder in; Stripers out

I took a few hours off to try the flounder again yesterday after a very busy weekend. Caught three nice fat ones down between the Willows and the Marina, plus a skate. Got one more at Cole's Creek. Dad watched PMack land a 28" striper off the Cupholder around 7PM. Dad also saw a ton of stripers popping at the Club around 6AM today. Maybe there is a surge of fish in finally-maybe the dogs of summer have finally come to scatter the bait.

I normally get $45/flat for worms but I got a double shipment in today. $30/flat (cost) while they last!

The biggest bass I've seen caught this year was a 49" on sea worms in the mack. The dude that caught it said "what fish doesn't like sea worms?".

(not being bribed to say this)

Funny you should say that. I actually caught my first two stripers of the season last night flipping worms on a small circle hook. Had a third but the hook broke at the bend.
Definitely more bass in the river this week.

I gotta do the marsh thing more. I suck at it. Never really done it before I moved here. It seems parking, access, and bugs are the issues.

Three of the best spots in this marsh don't have parking or access issues. The bugs? That's the price of admission, paid in BLOOD!

Deet is your friend! All bow before the keeper of the bug dope

Hey Harry,

Not that Pete won't send you a map

Access to a marsh isn't as hard as you might think, but you might need to walk a bit to get to where you want to fish. A yak would open the entire marsh up for you.

I haven't spent as much time in the Hampton Marshes as I should, but it seems to be very similar to the "migratory" fishery at the Danvers River. By that I mean that the fish move in and out of the marsh based on the tide and there are a few holes that will hold fish during low tide.

The key in a system like that is tidal stage and where the fish position themselves to ambush the schools of bait that drift in and out on the tide. The way I fished the danvers was based on +/- 1 hour of High, High + 1 hour to High + 2 hours, and High plus 2 hours to high plus 4 hours. and vice versa.

At each time period I would move either up or down river based on which way the water was flowing. The times I have fished the Hampton marshes this pattern worked well, but there might be a better one.

Concentrate on the heavy current seams and neck down areas like bridges. And in the Danvers at least during the last stages of the outgoing and early incoming, consider the marsh to have few if any fish in it and move to structure out front to catch up with the cows dumping in or out at the mouth.

Once you start fishing a marsh people say it gets in your blood. One thing I do know is that if you spend a little time out there you won't be disapointed.

Your milage may vary
See you out there.
Geoff
