There is a reason they call it the darkside, it is addicting.

The best way to get started is to put together a few hundred bucks and watch craigs list the last half of the month. It is amazing how many kayaks are hitting the chopping block each month. Gas and food costs are through the roof so when the end of the month comes we all are reaching for a solution. For a lot of people it is selling off their toys that they've barely used. There is no need to shell out big bucks on a first yak. It doesn't matter what your first yak is as long as it floats. Once you're in, you can pick and choose what you're interested in in the future.

Besides I have two SOT's and two SInKs, rather than throw your yak purchase money out on a rental I can give ya a loaner for the weekend.

The real "dark side" is using just ye feets, busting yourself up on rockpiles along the shoreline. Dark side.....outgoing tide, under the cover of night, near the poison ivy patch, on ya own 2 feets! On the north face baby! Oh boy...and if the fog rolls on........

Better have some good Korkers!

I hear ya, but nothing beats hooking a fish that can tow you out to sea. It is like a solitary whaling.

I'm rigging rods right now. I think I'll poke around some lighted docks for a bit. It would nothing to throw a second yak on the truck.

Damn I left right before your post. Met my buddy in the marsh, saw some fish rolling no takers then they disappeared. Shortly after the super bugs arrived who are bug spray proof and litterally chased us out of there. Need to get some fresh 100% deet shizah.

Was it the greenheads or the mingees, Harry? I fished a couple hours from 7:30-9:30PM and the mingees were epic! Deet, long sleeves, sun gloves and bug net hat-they still kept me flailing. Bearable in good fishing but the stripers didn't like the mackerel or worms I soaked. Bah!

That's cool I ended up bagging it. By the time I rigged up two rods from the new terminal loops to the leader and rerigged a light for the yak it was a little after 8. Well at least I'm ready for Saturday morning.

Midges and Greenheads are all part of the marsh experience, it is what keeps the place unpopular with tourists. The best way to handle Midges is to not fight them, let them munch on you until the burn makes you go numb.

The stuff I like the best is Natrapel, Products made in Littleton NH, I like the large spray can which isn't listed at the web site anymore. Spray it on thick and most things including midges and greenies stay away for 3 or so hours. You smell like a candle but the fish don't care.

Midges were the bane of my exisitance, I don't know if they were epic or a plague.

47th I'm planning on stopping by the shop for some odds and ends. On my way home from work. I'll be there around 4:30-5:00.
