When does the marsh fishing start?

I may be moving to the Seabrook area from SC and want to get in on the fishing! What to use, where to go, etc.
My boat is a 20' bassboat - will it do for the areas fishing?

Bought the boat in Paducah, KY. It's rigged with gps, front and driver color depth & fish finders, and I've fished all over the southern US. Currently fishing Santee Cooper and Lake Murray lakes.

My earliest marsh striper came in late April on a fly. Figure mid-May before you haul a boat to fish it. They will run earlier chasing alewives on the Lamprey, Cocheco and Salmon Falls Rivers, which are tributaries of the Great Bay Estuary.

Welcome to MM.

Santee Cooper? Doesn't that hold the record for largest Bass or some other fish? The salt water will start in May. The Bass boat may not be ideal for ocean fishing but will do for bays and estuaries provided you pick your days. Also, there are lots of fresh water venues near by. Many will start in April.

It's a freshwater boat. I'm looking at a center console (26 footer I saw at last weekend's boat show), would that be a better boat for the area?

Does anyone troll with deep dive cranks for stripe in the area? At Santee and Lake Murray that is a good method and I have the equipoment for that type of fishing already.

26 is a nice boat... a little big for most of the inshore/near shore bass fishing but it will open lots of possiblities for you... some do some deep trolling for bass around here... Lobster pots make it a pretty sporty gig however
