Hampton Harbor Pogies

Grabbed a few eels and headed up to Rye ledges....trolled the eels around he rocks....nothing. Stopped at the North side of Boars Head....no luck.

Fished the Mouth....and got a couple of twinkies on a sluggo.

Went inside as it got dark and found several schools of pogies rippling the surface. It was too dark to see if they were actually being harassed by anything...but a few splashes indicated they might be.

I've been fishing the harbor for 10 years now...this is the first time I have seen pogies in the harbor.

Never seen them during the day though.....where do they go?

They appeared to be feeding on the surface into the incoming tide.

The first sign of pogies being back in abundance around here was in 2005. Every Summer since, there has been more and more of them, and they have been going farther and farther upriver. In June of 07, BrandonK and I were walking on them at dead low / incoming one night up the Hampton River past the boat club. They were headed west, and moved off within 30 minutes. I was foul hooking them on my swimbait. So about 3 years they have been back in full force here. I am willing to bet they will head back upriver again since you saw them in the harbor.
