Talking Herring Rumor

I heard some chatter on the radio this week of herring (8-12") being caught right near the shore. Can anyone verify this report? I could not tell if they were out of the Merimack or off Hampton. I have a simple new pickling recipie that worked well for the Mac's I want to try it out on the herring.
