slow Fishing today on the mac
Fished 4 hours of the outgoing tide this afternoon, the current was insane and the fishing was slow. 3 Fish in 4 hours is not my average day
, also tons of crap in the water every cast was followed by cleaning weeds off the plug. |

I am no expert by any means but when the river is full of trash and fresh water, the fishing always seems to suck in there. Just think of all the shit flowing downstream you can't see. If I was a fish, I would get the hell out of there and sulk in a deep hole until the pattern changes and the flow eases.
The basses are most likely hanging off to the side outside the mack ambushing anything that comes through the flow of trash. What do you think Roc? Am I right or off base? |

Quite the complicated system working right now isn't it. You got flood conditions, astronomical high tides and a suck-ass N'easter going on all at once. They have junk coming down the river they have crud coming off the marsh at the high tide and they have wind and waves beating it all back on shore. Probably need a fish computer to figure it out.........Roc, You out there?

A little fresh water is good... but all this debris and mud is baaaad...
The one break we get with all this rain is the minus tides... this helps flushg the river out, but on the other hand, every bit of sea junk that has been beyond the "high water" marks is getting washed down stream... I went doen to check on the boat last night and look at the water... it actualy was cleaner than it was Saturday... as for the bass... lots of things happen to the eco system when all this occurs aside from the mud and degbris....and it probably will lead to some piss poor fishing... first event is the end of the herring run ( which will probaly have a poor spawn due to the water conditions) those bass will be looking for an altenative food sorce... normaly there could be sand eels, pogies, worms and green crabs ( bass love 'em) but the excess fresh water will kill the crabs and worms ( like it did last season) flush out the sand eels and push any pogies in the area out to sea ( and up to great bay!) there are not nearly enough eels in the river to support the huge schoools of bass in the river...with out a viable food sorce to sustain the fish, a good portion of them will high tail it out of the river and head north... |

Week of June 22 on the Mac
Guys, The flood waters have messed things up considerably, but they are starting to turn around. I had 3 days that week on the river with only 1 day of more than 20 fish on the boat.... UGLY....
As of Monday 7/6 the river got much better, and tides where closer to scheduled highs/lows.... Steve |

fished the outgoing tide today was slow but enough to keep us interested. Until 4pm when the big one hit. 42'' striper on a flimsy rod/reel set up. Took 25 minutes to get it in. Ended the day with 20 stripers 4 flounder and 3 skate. Weather was awesome (finally!!)
