Weekend report

Haven't posted in a while, but tis the season to get back on MM. here's what I did this weekend.

Saturday night I hit the flats with 2 buddies. We covered a lot of ground looking for them, and finally found them in some skinny water (3 feet). We were watching the wake from their fins as they swam around just below the surface, and saw dozens of swirls as they spooked from the e motor, but couldn't coax a single bite. We fished till 2 am, no love. Very frustrating.
Sunday Morning I just got ready for the BBQ, we had a ton of friends coming in the afternoon. Around noon a few families started showing up. I grabbed 4 kids and an adult to help and we hit the flats to try and get these kids on some fish. It took 4 stops, but we finally found them and got 5 fish in the next 30 min.

Satisfied that all the kids caught atleast one we headed in, just to find another group that wanted to go. So 4 more kids jump in along with 2 adult helpers. I thought I had a bead on them, but by the time I got back to the spot we were in the tide had dropped and we were down to 3 ft of water. Kept the troll going out into the flats and we were right back into them. 4 kids, 4 more fish. Then it was time to get back for the beer, BBQ and wiffle ball.

Did a little to much celebrating to get out Sunday night or early Monday Morning. But We got out late morning on Monday and finally my kids got a turn to fish. First my buddy Dave, Nathan and I headed out for Macs. We tried breakin rock, but had no luck, probably to late. Then headed to speckled apron were we got 15. We also got a good strike on one we live lined. It made a good run taking line, but eventually spit the hook. It was most likely a good sized keeper, but even if landed would have been released because we were outside the 3 mile line.
Then it was back to pick up Casey, my brother Steve and my 10 month old nephew Jake and hit the flats. Jake was a bit young to pull one in, but got a good Nap in. Nathan and Casey landed 3 or 4 fish each and we all had a blast.
So, We went the hole weekend without a keeper, all fish were 20 to 26 inches. But a bunch of kids caught their first fish and a few other got their biggest fish ever. I'll take that trade any day.
For those that haven't seen it, this is how these young kids reel in stripers "on their own".
My 4 year old daughter casey.

All it takes is one day to make them nature lovers for life....Judging by the size of those smiles you were successful.
