Stripahs in the River

Fished the Piscat tonight. Lots of birds working, only landed 1 schoolie on artificial, about 24". Threw it back. Lost another about the same size. Fishing from land. Would have been much better had I been in a boat. The way the fish were feeding and moving the baitfish around, it was more like they were getting ready for their run back south rather than the end of July...... It's nice to see this year after last year having been so slooooowwwww. It was nice to get the juices flowing a little after having taken a 3 year hiatus while out of New England.

Fished the river again tonight. Not as much bird or feeding action. Landed 1 about 18" and another about 22". Could've stayed longer had the Mrs. not been working and a dog at home waitng to be fed.

fishing the Piscat....first fish of season

July 29- On my maiden voyage of the season due to many factors, I put my canoe in at eliot early morning and caught a 26" striper on topwater during slack tide, saw very little activity....a few birds on bait on the NH side so I couldnt get to them ....if i had launched on NH side course they would have been on the Maine side LOL. Still a good opening fish for me especially on topwater with light gear.

July 31- A friend took me out in his whaler out of eliot as well. We fished many spots from near the mouth to the mouth of the Oyster. We got a total of 5 with the smallest 19 3/4 and the rest 25 to the largest 29 3/4 (mine fortunately). Four of the five were on topwater while I got my first on soft plastic (shad). Except for one area, the stripers were very scattered We found several baitfish schools, including one massive one which unfortunately the bass hadnt found, but only one that had fish feeding that we were able to catch. Also saw a flyfisherman pulling in several what looked like pollock around PI.

If anyone sees a green canoe anywhere in the Piscat or around Hampton harbor its probably me as Im the only fool in one so please stop by and say hello. I'd be happy to take anyone out if they are comfortable in a canoe
