where are the big cod?

went out saturday to go groud fishin, but was too foggy.so we caught some mackies outside 2kr bouy.then went and tried the bass near the shipyard with a lot of little bass just killing the bait.sunday, beautiful day, calm seas,no fog went out to the hump 4 mi.s so.of the shoals, where everyone and his brother were.very slow, a few small cod.then went to old scantum and caught 2 nice haddock, one nearly 10 lb.s,the other 8lb.s,on shrimp.listen to the head boats, and they were'nt doin much either.one positive was there was tons of bait around, mackeral, herring near the bottom.they{head boats}did very well saturday.

Hey marc,

i did the same yesterday afternoon... with some nice haddock but no big cod.... i have also notice the fleet is thining from weeks past and the head boats seem to be working their way farther off shore.... my bet is try just north of the shoals for the whales now. the humps a couple north of the shoals get productive a bit later than the ones to the south. they see very little pressure because the head boats dont want to travel that far (closer for us but farther than the usual grounds for all of the head boat fleets)

snoops, thats basically it.its not like clams where you can see the squirt hole. just make sure your obviosly in mud,not too wet.i can dig 3 dozen in about 45 min.s. some of them are not real big but for flounder you don't care.at 6.50 doz.i think its worth it,and its good exercise,i need that.
