Exclamation NHDES to Oversee Taylor River Fish Sampling Effort

I know this is a little late, but I just read it in the May issue of Hawkeye.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: April 5, 2007

NHDES to Oversee Taylor River Fish Sampling Effort

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Environmental Health Program and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department are conducting a fish sampling effort in early April at the Taylor River Impoundment in Hampton/Hampton Falls in response to the discovery of elevated levels of organochlorine pesticides (such as DDT, DDD, DDE) in the sediment at the impoundment. The accumulation of organochlorine pesticides from sediment into fish is variable, so collection of fish from the Taylor River is warranted to determine if the contamination presents a health risk to fish consumers.

Until the data is analyzed, DES recommends that the public follow the current statewide fish consumption advisory, which recommends limits for the consumption of freshwater fish due to mercury contamination. Women of childbearing age and children should limit their intake to one six ounce portion per month. Other adults may eat four portions per month. In addition, because contaminants such as DDT and mercury may bioaccumulate in fish, for fish that eat other fish such as bass and pickerel, only fish that are 12 inches or less should be eaten. If the results of the pesticide analysis of the Taylor River fish indicate that people should eat less than the currently recommended advisory, a water body specific advisory will be issued.

Any questions related to this notice should be directed to Pam Schnepper at DES’ Environmental Health Program by calling 271-3994.

I hope you're kidding, hoss. I've had LMB filets from a cold water lake in the Adirondacks that were fine eating. Oops, I forgot, you don't like to eat fish anyway!

Pickerel is apparently delicious... Never tried it, dont really plan on it. The only freshwater fish I eat is members of the trout family... and brook trout, cause they're actually char, not even trout... Me and my girlfriend drove over this river... Her name is taylor, too. Useless info for you all to enjoy :]

LMAO. Skunch is too funny. He is getting smarter every day!

Ya, I dont eat seafood, 'cept tuna. But I could understand LMB's from a cold water lake being good. I must've missed that post you made above Pete. Just say it now! But yeah, I can see that being good, but LMB's from like a hot, stagnant river like the Taylor cant be as good.

I don't think I have ever seen someone eat Pickerel.
