Merrimack Herring, Shad SalmonReturns to
Here is a link for returns to the Merrimack River for River Herring, Shad and Atlantic Salmon for 2008 through June. All are disapointing. Scroll down for year-by-year total return since the Essex Dam(Lawrence)fish lift has operated.
From it's inception, I was a strong supporter of this restoration program and served as the New Hampshire rep on the Merrimack River Advisory Panel for many of those years; I think it high time for a thorough review of the program, its' failures and successes. Now I think the question has to be; just how long the federal and state governments are going to dump an annual budget of millions of $ into an Atlantic Salmon and Shad restoration that has yet to be successful after 26 years. http://www.fws.gov/r5cneafp/returns.htm Last edited by Onshore : 07-07-2008 at 08:22 PM. |
