Computer commited suicide

Help,

Computer commited suicide yeasterday morning. The gorry details are as follows.

Turn on and it tries to communicate with the two disk drives then does nothing but humms along no change in the hard drive speed or anything else, screen says no input.

I took it apart.

The hard drive is alive and well in another computer right now.
The hard drive had power both the 5 and the 12 were good as was voltage in various other parts of the computer.

I suspect that the BIOS might have gotten jacked some how but I can't get to it now. Is there a reset button some where on the motherboard for these type of problems.

It is a

Gateway GT5032
4200 AMD Athilon 64x2 CPU

I checked the internal battery it was at 3 ma (dead!)

Put a new one in and that didn't help, but again if the BIOS is corrupt from the battery in the first place I need a reboot of the BIOS.

I don't think the thing is totally blown, but maybe it is. It was running fine when I turned it off late at night and then my wife turned it on in the am and nothing. We did have some rain but I don't remember andy lighting. Very odd to have a instant death like this I think, so I am hoping that it is an easy fix, becaues the drop from dual 4200 to 1500 is wicked noticeable, at least the hard drive survived, and is FULLY backed up now.

Also checked for leaky, or fat, capacitors, but all looked ok.

A friend suggested that it might have an over heat set up for a faulty fan an that might have to be manually turned back on??

HELP Help, help,
