I took a walk down to the shanty town on the Bay last night with Bay. Couple buddies were fishing. The activity was slow. They got about 25 between then for a few hours on the outgoing. Pulled up shop along with a bunch of other fisherman about 730PM.
As Joe said, it may be a long walk and the wind may be cold but it sure beats watching TV. I saw the activity on the Squamscott River on my way to the Bay. Most vehicles I have seen yet this year. Bay had a good time in the smelt shack. She laid down and watched the smelt come out of the hole. A stern "leave it" and the worms were safe. She is living up to her name. ![]() |

We fished the river. A friend who fishes River Rd says it's wicked slow there, except the people who walk doen around the corner are coming back with good catches. I've seen that before; too much noise and activity at the gang plank but better fishing where it's quiet. We used to walk down to where the power lines cross on a day tide and limit out before people at the end of River Rd had a dozen.

Fishing has been good up toward town, guys. Try along the parkway or across from Fort Rock Farm. We've been doing 12-20 pounds out of one four hole shack(four rods fishing). I talked to a guy with a shack along the parkway and he's been doing well, too.

Exeter Montessori School. Exit 10 westbound on 101 and head toward town on 85. Before the parkway there's a little field you can cross to get on the river. Or park at the town boat launch and walk down. We are fishing two hours before high and an hour after.

Good on you, Jason. About time. I was afraid all the "River Road Rats" were going to come looking for me; now you can catch them where you are set up.
Big fish, huh? |
