Berry Brook question
I was duck scouting today because it was too late in the day to do anything else
. When I crossed berry brook on brackett road in rye there was much fishing activity on the bridge. Does any one know if this is Sea Run Brown, smelt, or insanity?Oddfish |

Sea Runs most likely... it is a great fishery at the bridge... damn things are rather smart however.

From what I could gather. Slack tide high seems preferable. Artificial lure one hook up to three points, flies are fine. There are some strange rules about berry brook so look them up at NH fish and Game. the river is very sectionalized in its fishing regs.

it's not that they are smart but that they spook real easy. you have to move like a ninja around the water. my buddies that fish them will stand way back from the edge of the water while they make their first few casts.

Good point Harry. Like it is with most trout, (exept stockies that swim towards humans) Most of them are skitish.
I used to fish a river just north of my home town in Newton, and would often clean up while other got skunked using the same bait. The only thing that I noticed that was different, was that I tiptoed, and hid my profile behind the bushes, and wore dark clothes, while others walked up like a bull in a china closet. They seemed to forget that these fish face predators all the time. especialy in their young stages, and have to hone their sences if they are going to survive. With glasses you could see the fish scatter and hide, and their nervouse activity when someone without those ninja charecteristics aproached. |
