Rifle season is upon us

I hear "litteraly" that Deer Rifle season has started, I knew it by calender date, but I was at the bus stop with my daughter and had to explain what all the noise was. "it's a fall thing hunny, men are a little nutty and they like to make noise in the forest at this time of year. right now it goes Bang..............................Bang............ ....................Bang, etc. Just before Thanks giving the tune changes to Bang, Bang, Bang............Bang.............................. ...............Bang, Bang, Bang...........Bang............................... ....................Bang, Bang, Bang....Bang! Im suprised at how fast Duck hunters can jam that single shot in behind the three that have already missed, I'm also confused by it. Usually if you miss the first and second shot your chance at a third is low, granted exceptions of wounded ones, but it's always 3 fast then a very brief pause and a fourth

That's what you call cuttin' wood. Most guys completely freak out when a deer goes buy them and they have a tendency to "open up" on it. The last two slower shots are feeble attempts at hitting a target that is sizzling through the woods at warp factor 8.

I have been hunting pretty hard in my area. We cannot take does AT ALL during riffle. I was in another zone on Wednesday and passed up a doe. My buddy passed on a spike (which he now regrets). I don't take small deer, so I hold out and usually end up skunked. I will drop a spike this year if the opportunity arises.

The winter we had over here was HARSH on the herd. The deer are scatterd to boot due to the massive amount of feed out there right now.

I have never hunted unit M. I talk to guys that do and they see lots of deer.

In 60 hours of hunting, I have seen 4 deer. The area I hunt is 15,000 acres of uninhabited forest. It is quite different from the smaller parcels to the east. There are no ATVS allowed, so to hunt you have to hoof it.

I hunted a "smaller piece" on Wednesday of around 2300 acres. Still big enough to get away. That is what I like. Get out and away from the rest.

Good luck to all.

Tested my Idea of takin my sit on top across Hampton harbor this morning, works just fine. Took clams today (who F-ing Knew they would open hampton up this saturday, I was clalling the clamflat hot line 180043clams at 2 am hoping to hear little harbor was closed so I would not have to go but no Hampton open) anyway I digress.
Next trick will be to fire the shotgun in the kayak, see how fast me and the gun enter the water >

I think I will just use it as a vehicle to get across the marsh before sunrise and then jump shot from there.

My brother in law just shot a nice deer. 192lb 8 pointa. Nice 4.5 year old with a dark brown rack and some high tines. There are not alot of deer in our area, but they sure are nice ones.

BTW, the rut is ON!!!!!!!!!! This deer had a nose up a doe's ass. Not anymore. I will go out and hunt in the wind tunnel tommorow.
