In partnership with the NH Division of Travel and Tourism (DTTD), the NH Fish and Game Department is collecting money-saving deals and posting them at Hunt NH and SAVE! - N.H. Fish and Game -- just in time for hunters and other post-foliage travelers to the Granite State.

The offers at Hunt NH and SAVE! - N.H. Fish and Game -- including discounts on lodging, restaurants, shopping, and guided hunts -- make New Hampshire the perfect choice for a weeklong hunting adventure or a weekend getaway.

Now through early December is prime hunting time in New Hampshire -- long known as a hunter-friendly state. The state contains more than a million acres of public lands open to hunting, all of it within an easy drive of surrounding states. You can even hunt on Sundays. Firearms season for deer -- by far the most popular hunting season in New Hampshire -- starts November 12. Muzzleloader season starts earlier, on November 1 in most of the state; and archery season for deer has been ongoing since September 15. If you haven't been scouting yet, now's a perfect time to get outside, scope out some prime terrain and get ready for your hunt.

In these lean times, some have pointed out that hunting is an economical form of recreation -- with the added potential of providing fresh, organic meat for the dinner table. "You hear about 'eating local,' well, meat doesn't get more local than if it's from the forest in your town," said Fish and Game's Mark Beauchesne. "Besides, hunting is a great way to get some fresh air and spend time with your kids or your friends. If you're a hunter, you probably already own the equipment you need. Now you just need to take back your weekend. Get your chores done during the week, call your hunting buddies, pack your gear and go!"

"Hunt NH and Save" builds on the huge success of DTTD's "New Hampshire Goes 'Green' with Gas and Money Saving Deals" promotion, with the added goal of inviting more hunters into New Hampshire during the shoulder season, and giving resident hunters an extra incentive to take a mini-vacation in their own backyard. Hunting is big business here, with 61,000 hunters spending $83 million a year on hunting and hunting-related travel in New Hampshire.
