LMAO.. I'm feeling just wonderfull, my knee is alot better and everything else is healing up.... like any kind of fishing location is key.... Cod fishing is no different... I've got 40+ years of notes to fall back on.. the same spots produce, season after season...

Newbee here. Just completed my first year of shore fishing at the Hampton bridge area and the river next to Browns. Didn't catch a thing. I used clams, worms, chunk herring and lures. Nothing worked. It started out as a relaxation event and as the shutout continued it became a quest. I had several bites, but no hookups.
I didn't really see many stripers landed.
Can someone give me some tips to get off the shnide?

Put the rod away and pray for better conditions next year. I spoke to a biologist last night and she believes the fish stayed offshore in warmer water this season. The good news is it's unusual and you'll likely do MUCH better next year.

dittos to 47OTW,

I fished just up aways from the Hampton bridge (my not so super secreat spot). Most years; 10 fish an hour 1 kepper in 10. This year with some amount of dilligence to that spot ,3 fish total (from June to end of Sept). I have heard the same reports that the fish stayed out and went up to NS.
Good news is that the herd was less abused by fishing this year. They may forget some bad memories and come back next year with a vengence.

My opinoin take it for what it is worth (usually not much) leave the bridge and move else where. you can catch more fish elses where and it doesn't hurt the fish as much to land and release on the beach vs pulling them up the bridge then dropping them back.

Tight lines, and welcome aboard,, Oddfish

Head down to "mecca" in New York.

Or come down here and catch some drum. Our run is just beginning.

That goes for everyone on this board. If you want to take a vacation I would suggest North Carolina. I will gladly aide in finding a place to stay and when you get here I can play limited experienced guide. The days are still in the 80's and the nights cool to 50's-60's.

IMO North Carolina's Outer Banks is the Mecca for surf fisherman.

If I was still young, and more importantly single, I would be on your front porch by saturday, I'll hope for some job related thing to come up or find some obscure meeting to attend, but I would love to find a way down there.
