Am i a googan?...

Just curious if you guys saw me out fishing would you be like "look at that googan" because i go surf fishing with an 8' ugly stick and a little 3500 series baitrunner? B/C i was called that recently by two yuppy looking "fishing elitists" on the beach. Sorry if i cant throw up the money for van staals like those guys. They also gave me crap because although im not one of those big white bucket people, i go out with my little fold up chair, battery powered lantern ( i know enough that it can spook shallow fish so i only use it when i need a little light), and my little 1'x1' cooler i use for bait, drink, and my sandwich. Am i a googan? hahha.

who cares what you are called as long as you are happy fishing and catch fish. As I recall from other posts and my experience beach seining, there are one helluva lot of large stripers floating around in less than 3' of water. Shorter pole = heavier bait or lure = larger fish.

Striper fishing is unlike any other sport in that you tend to get a wide variety of poeple due to the numerous methods that you're able fish. Within these methods (boat, surf, bait, fly, etc.) you have various range of $$ tackle. Each group looks down to some degree on the other and you'll always have those who think that just because they can drop a few more bucks than you on tackle instantly make them better. But it's like that with everything in life. Key is to find others you have common interest and fish with them.

We all have our pet peeves - the snobs don't bother me, the proof is in the catch. My biggest peeve is when asking for advice you get the "you've got to put in the time" reply. Next person that feeds me that line is going to get my 9" foot Tica driven through their skull.

Dont pay any attention to those elitist twats. They have their own site where they stroke each others egos and sometimes post pics/proof of large fish. As long as you are enjoying yourself, off to hell with them. I think they buy those Van Zebco's and ZeeBass reels just so they can say they have them and be see with them. It makes them feel "above" the masses. You dont need a $1300 NASA reel to find, catch, fight and beat quality fish, say 40+ pound striped bass. Hell, I have beaten a few 40+ pound fish with a beaten up $50 Penn baitrunner with a questionable drag lol. If you know how to set your drag properly, tie knots, fight a fish etc and just plain know how to fish well, you dont need to have that stuff. Maybe thats why some people need to spend that much....to make up for their lack of ability.

I say have fun, and flip off or slap anyone that tries to bring you down

riverjim... no offense about the white bucket. its just when i think of them it always reminds me of this asian family. there is always like 14 of them, only 2 fishing yet they feel the need to have like 20 rods out there and keep EVERYTHING they catch, regardless of legal size. Heck i saw them taking home skates once! hehe. So ya i take that back nothing wrong witht the bucket thing, its just, ugh that family! Theyre all i can think of where i hear "the bucket". lmao.
