After the fun day in hampton yeasterday With the Schoolie blues and Crevalle I thought I would take my kids down to get them Hooked on fishing.
Turns out the blues and cevalles moved out or morphed into herring, but we prevalied anyway. After a few near catches the boy went to sleep, but my daughter kept at it and caught 4 herring and one baby blue. I caught one herring.
She showed some incredible pacients and innovation. After the fishing slowed I was telling her about fly fishing. so we cut a sabikki in half and she dangled that just on the waters surface an twitched it. She caught three of her fish that way. I wish I had video. These little herring coming right out of the water to take the hook. Anyway she is happy as all get out. And wants to go fishing again asap.

Your getting better at this posting thing Skunchie. Change "his or Her" to "the" and "he, She" to "it" and you are on the way.

Thanks for sharing odd.

In my humble opinion, ther is no greater joy then introducing a child to our sport. seeing their eyes light up when they see there first feeding frenzy, and the exitement they have when they catch there first big one is what life is all about.

Oh ,and by the way , I love the pic with the cat. It actualy brought back memories of my childhood days, and my cats, Lynyrd, and skynyrd. Boy did they love fresh pickerell.

Great Job odd fish! Nothing in the world like putting the kids on fish, any kind of fish!

One thing I always do, before I take the kids out (my oldest is only 4 1/2), I say to them:

"Daddy will take you fishing (hunting), but you got to promise that when daddy is to old to go on his own you'll take me"

And we don't go anywhere till I get the old

"we promise".

My brother introduced me to fishing, when I was a child, over 40 years ago. We still fish every chance we get.

I like how you tied off that red rod. Did you learn from prior experience or were you being proactive?

For me, its pretty hard to beat the excitement my kids have when they catch a fish - whether its a small sunfish, a kibbie, a bass or a crab. They don't care, and it doesn't take much for them to be having fun.

I have yet to loose a rod and reel, but I have been close several times. It comes from running multiple line by one's self. I usually have the drag on low and that has led to some spooling issues on occasions, See other hampton post. So I tie down the reel that's not im my hand. Seemed only natural to do it for the kids since they have brought in keeper cod, doggies and stripers on their, barbie and shrek rods.
