A few fall run suggestions

So I had to put a sweat shirt on to walk my dog this morning. Which made me get all tingly with fall run flash backs. If you have never caught a fish on plugs/lures and really want to then now is the time of year. A few helpful suggestions of items to have in your surf bag or tackle box are:

storm shads
tins (crippled hearing, point jude, hopkins spoon, etc)
spooks
pencil poppers

and for the night
needles
sluggos
fin-s
danny's

Always size your plugs up to your rod capacity and keep in eye to the sky and I am sure you will be putting plenty of bendo's in the rod. I will post some pics of items I carry later tonight.

Great post. In the Fall, during the day, I love tins especially Charlie Graves, pencil poppers and other poppers like a Skitter Pop too, swimbaits, 5" Gag's Grabbers Mr. Bunker, and some wood swimmers. But topwater in the Fall is my fave. You can fish fast, locate the fish and follow the bait. Peanut Bunker for dinner!

Harry pics would be great. I am somewhat new to fishing artificals and my arsenal is pritty small. I get in the tackle shops and can't seem to focus on anything because there is too much to choose from. Where should I start. I have sluggos and deep diving rapalas I use to troll. I have a few popper plugs but never seem to have any luck with the top water stuff.

Last year during the week of the 21st ish I had no job and completely blew off my college classes. The schoolies were running hard. In that one week alone I caught 150 bass that I counted. There were days I lost count, I only reported what I kept track off in my journal. All the fish were small but all were caught on artificials. Tins were the name of the game, winds that week were out of the west. I needed all the distance I could get. There were many heart broken fly fisherman watching me that week. I let a couple of guys rip a few casts...my arm was tired anyways. Im jewish put I assume this is what Christmas feels like when you're a kid. I love the fall.

rockfishchef...pics comming tonight, after I fish. just for you my man.

Yesah, I love ST. Mike Muir is one of the greatest metal songwriters of all time

'chef, try a Gags Mr. Bunker. In the Fall, search the shoreline for Peanut Bunker. You can see them when they are being harassed by the striped bass, cuz they will zigzig across the surface of the water. They kind of look like hundreds of razorblades slicing across the surface. Once you get the hang of reading the water, you will find them fairly easily. I have been fortunate enough in my life to have walked in on some pretty serious striped bass blitzes, with peanut bunker washing up over my boots while I stood on one of my favorite perches along the New Hampshire shoreline. So many stripers, that my Skitter Pop was landing on their backs. Pretty f'in fun, although it usually only lasts 10-20 minutes or so (in general).

I also have a sweet bunker swimmer from Roc that I am gonna throw this fall. And Kimber from smittyplugs.com gave me a pogie lure similar to a Gags Mr. Bunker except it has a lip. I will try that as well.

Picture of a Mr. Bunker is attached below. This is an excellent lure to work in the fall if the peanuts are around. You can fish it fast and it really drives the bass mad as it thumps through the water. you can get theh 5" version at Wal-Nuts for 6-8 dollars. If you search for "gag's grabbers Mr. Bunker" on google, you will see how fast MM is spidered and indexed by google cuz this thread comes up on the 1st page of results

I also attached a pic of the Gag's Grabbers Bluefish Bomb. These things are hollow, release a bubble trail out the rear, and cast an absolute mile cuz they have a bearing inside. These things cast FAR. Another good tool to cover lots of water quickly. Bass will destroy these things too. I have caught quality bass up to 20 pounds on the Bombs, even in the spring upriver. I like the chrome ones and the blue/white. I think they still have a hunter orange one that is good too.
