Song dogs
Maybe if I write about it I can talk myself out of it.
On the ride home from the boat tonight I passed an old trappin' permit and watched a big boar coon scoot across the road. My mind was instantly on the trapline. I have a strong urge to put #1.75 ankle bracelets on a few song dogs this fall. I have two pieces of property where my incidental catch would be slim. I also have the last two weeks of November off from work. Signed landowner permits are the first thing that need to be acquired. Then a little ant hill dirt for those cold November nights. I have walked up to song dogs in my traps before. Just as I was about to do the dirty deed the coyotes reared back and sent their last howls skyward. It is something I will never forget. The call to the line is strong. ![]() |

Ahhh yes, good Ol' Wile Coyote. You must go forth, and coni bear some of them vermin. Later would be better as the pelts are primer, but nothing wrong with now if the season is open. Good luck & let us know how you do.
