Question So I got a few bucks to blow

Had a garage sale and cleared out some junk. Now I've got some money to spend on tackle. Thought I'd visit Surfland. I want to pick up some plugs. What lures are "must haves" ?

I like the Striper Sniper plugs against the back wall.. and the Ocean Lures stuff is my 'go-to' for tuna, but great baits for stripers as well. Nice peanut bunker, sand-eel, herring and mackerel patterns.

Needles floating or sinking? Pros/cons My first thought is floating or slow sinking due to all the rock/weed I'll be fishing over.

I'm far from a needle "sharpie", but I always preferred to fish the upper water column with needles. I have never even tried to "bottom drop" one. I saw one last Spring that Roc made....oh boy.....ass end slithering sub-surface, head end up.

I will be setting up another contest for custom eel skin bottle plug that Roc made too. Nobody won it during the Spring, so it will be up for grabs again soon! You'll have to get in on this one...it's a SICK custom plug

I love the Gibbs parrot colored pencil popper 1 1/2 oz and larger. If you have the money try First Light Anglers in Rowley. The carry Tattoo's and Salty Bugger plugs - by far the best quality plugs money can buy!!!! They are a bit more expensive than Gibbs but the quality can't be matched. Tattoo's top water herring pattern plug is great early spring and the swimmers are great for the fall. Also, Salty's neddlefish plugs are fanatastic - cast a mile, durable and work great. You can check out both of their websites as well:

Saltwater Needlefish style wooden lures and plugs for large stripers and bluefish

Saltwater & Freshwater Wooden Fishing Lures for Striped Bass, Pike, Redfish, Tuna, & More!

Sinking and floating needles have their applications. If you find your self bored by a slow working floater try a sinker even in snag infested water. The slightly faster crank to keep it on the surface can help with the pain staking needle process. I switch between both all the time from the same spot.

No advice but an update

It seems that Walmart is strarting its fishing close out. It may be worth a look to get some restocking at 1/2 price.
