Bait bouncing off the surface today

Went back out today, just got back. I hit my favorite dropping tide "elbow" spot. Nada. I missed a lot of the ebb, I was a little late. I fished 2 spots and left to hit another spot a little farther north.

Upon arrival there, I saw fish bouncing off the surface. I started working a 4" tsunami split tail minnow and after half a dozen casts, something was on the hook. Well flew out of the water and spazzed off the hook. Looked like a Shad I think. Too quick to sure, but I dont think it was a small striper just by the way the swimbait was getting tapped. So I think I ran it through a school of shad or something, and finally snag hooked it after the 7th bump.

I ran that some more with no results, but the fish continued to pop. I threw on a jig and jigged my ass off for about 30 minutes, NADA. Wish I had brought some smaller jigs, shad darts or a weighted treble! Tide was just about pooped when I left.
