On The Board (finally!)

Met up with Brandon a little after 6 this evening. Was pleased to see the Marshman already there! We 3 chatted for a bit then started hitting the water. Marshman was up first with some Stripes! We swapped spots for a bit and worked the water over. Just a bit later I finally got on the board with my first Striped One of the year. The camera couldnt get there quick enough, but I got a witness! Scored on a 4" Tsunami split tail minnow. So chalk up the first Striper of the year on those swimbaits 2 years in a row.

After scoring the first of the year, I hear Brandon holler over about a SEAL. Yup, a friggin seal showed up and was feasting on bass upriver! Scumbag!!! I have never seen a seal that far up in my life. Unreal.

It was schoolie fun, fishing the top of the incoming. Marshman headed home, and Brandon and I stayed and waited out the turn of the tide. Paul brought the grille, and we had some buffalo wings while waiting the ebb to pick up. We worked the ebb for about 30 minutes maybe with no more action. I swapped from the swimbait to a jig for the outgoing, but got no taps.

On the board!

Nice! I'm gunna wait for a good outgoing at night before I head way upriver.

Shoulda seen Pete when the fish came up onto the grass He was sniffin, hoppin and all excited. At least he got to see one! After that, he layed right down next to the rivers edge in the grass and waited for the next one to come up, but it never did lol.

And that friggin' seal!

Came out of the Marina last night as the tide was almost all the way up. Couldn't find anything anywhere! Well....there was one hooked fish that wasn't a twinkie.....but never saw him before the hook pulled.

You should teach Pete to run up and down the river bankings, and then to bark as though he is treeing a Racoon when he sees a fish, or maybe just point....

Congrats on the first of 08..
You are correct way up rivah is slow in at least two of them which I tried today..very little bait movement..Look between the 19th and the 23rd......
BIG water is comin'

Speaking of weird things with seals..A couple years ago there was one all the way up the Squamsott around the end of the smelt run. I thought someone got a picture of it sunning itself on the Phillips Academy boat dock and published it but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Let me correct the last post...

Just a few hours later the bait started to show up again on the home turf..With the bait comes the bassies, and I too am finaly on the board..First fish in 2006 was May 15, 2007 was May 16 and 2008 was May 16. Actualy just a few minutes into the sixteenth. First of the season late night bass. Isn't natures clock cool?? I would have been earlier, but I seem to breifly have forgotten how to set the hook.
