You heard it here first! MM Member Ed aka "Cold Waters" reported bumping into a large school of pogies (aka Menhaden, Bunker) in a local river. Yes, UPRIVER. This is an excellent sign of things to come in 2008 for New Hampshire striped bass fishing. You can check out C.W.'s report, and consequent discussion about the pogies, including a picture of his catch at the link below... Pogies arrive in New Hampshire waters |

Yes, a seal way upriver feasting on our beloved stripers. So the first wave of migrant striped bass schoolies has arrived in Hampton. Get out on the water ASAP! Here we are, May 1st, and the Alewives (River Herring) have begun their Spring run up into New Hampshire's rivers to spawn in the freshwater. Word has it that several rivers are doing very well, and seeing an increase in the amount of Alewives going through fish ladders. This is great news all around. The Striped Bass will be right on their tails! Striper fishing in the New Hampshire seacoast area should start to pick up this week. For up to date info on the N.H. Herring Run, click the link below to read a report on this, provided by a member of our forum... New Hampshire Herring Run & Striper Fishing To get the latest chatter and reports, please check out our NEW fishing reports sub-forums. Meant to make access to local reports easier to find and archive, these sub-forums should really pick up this first week of May.
