Fishing report Week Ending 7/18/10 |

Piscataqua River We had good Striped Bass fishing with at least 2 keepers on each trip this week. Fishing was good and we mixed trips this week with some trips we used live bait and other trips we used chunk bait. On two days we even got into some short surface action with pods of smaller stripers on the surface. We caught them on casting plugs and rubber lures. The feeds didn’t last long but we were in the right place at the right time, and fished them hard for the 15 minutes they were on top. Saturday was a fun trip with long time customer Paul and his wife and young children. Everyone had a blast catching bait, mackerel and pollock, and then we spent some time catching stripers. Just a lot of family fun. This week we also caught a sea bass, our first for the season. Every year I get a few, they make for good eating even though much smaller than striped bass. Sea Bass are more common south of us where sometimes party boats will run trips for them. In NH they are rare and there aren't any size limits on them, although anything less than 14" is just too small to keep in my opinion. Tight lines, Capt. Joel www.nhsaltwaterfishing.com |

5/22/10 will always be known as the day I caught my first Brownie. If you haven't noticed my avatar yet.. you will. lol
I woke up .. reasonably early for a Saturday I guess. The Fiance™ has started to poke fun at me for leaving at 0500 to go fishing so I stayed in bed till 0700 this time around. I left the house and needed gas but still hadn't decided where to go that morning. I only wanted to be out of the house for a few hours which knocked quite a few locations off my list, but for a good 5 mins I ping ponged quite a few locations. I settled on going north, guessing a two stopper.
First stop the Merrimack is brown and spoiled with rain overflow. I didn't even stop the car. |

I had been getting the doubts about my fishing. It's a bad thing to get the doubts. There was no apparent reason to have them. I have not been skunked in months. I have not been skunked on any pole in months. I have even slayed my trout for the year (or at least something that resembled something that once had some semblance to a trout). But there was this nagging feeling I still had not produced cod, and I had been targeting cod. I had not even found the shorts and no redfish either. I had made my calls based on past history, and all of what I could sponge off Roc and all the other good fishermen offering advice. Most people were doing well. The doubt crept in.......Why, what, where am I going wrong? |
